Summer has arrived, and with it comes one of the most important questions of the season: Do I need a new air conditioner?
Staying proactive and keeping your air conditioning unit – whether a window unit or a central one – clean and in working order is always a great idea, but sometimes it might not be enough. Other issues may present themselves and the end result could leave you with a sweltering home during the summer months. So, before that can happen, take a look at some of the tell-tale signs that air conditioning replacement may be in your future.
1.) If repairing your current system is incredibly expensive. If your current unit is in need of repairs and the cost of those repairs is high, you may want to reconsider. Take some time to look at what it would cost to repair your current unit versus what it would cost for new air conditioning installation. In most cases, a replacement will make better financial sense.
2.) If your current air conditioner is over 10 years old. If you take good care of your air conditioning unit, it should easily last you 10 or 15 years, according to experts. However, not everyone does this. A good rule to follow is that if your system is 10 years old or older, go ahead and replace it. It may cost a bit more than you like, but if you consider advancements in efficiency that have been made since your last purchase, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you’ll be getting for the price.
3.) If the system isn’t cooling your home consistently. Reasons for this can vary from disrepair to the age of the unit, but it happens more often than you might think. Air conditioning replacement, in this case, is a good idea, as you’ll want to keep your home comfortable during hot summer months. If your current unit isn’t doing the job, replace it with one that will.
4.) If you’re paying more and more to run the same air conditioning system. This is a clear sign that you need an air conditioning replacement. If you’ve been using the same system for a number of years, yet the costs of doing so are steadily increasing each year, that’s a sign that the efficiency of the system is decreasing. Replace the aging air conditioning unit with a new one that is energy-efficient.
5.) If your current system uses R 22 Freon. This freon is being phased out by the government in an effort to save energy. As a result, your air conditioning unit could become obsolete in time if it uses R 22 freon. Stay ahead of the curve and replace your system now to take advantage of energy-efficient units that use the new freon known as R410A.
Summer heat can be brutal. Stay on top of it by making sure your air conditioner is in tip-top shape. If it isn’t, take the necessary steps to get it replaced and keep your home and family cool for the summer!
