Air Conditioner

Air Conditioner Not Cooling?

People buy air conditioners for one main reason: to keep their home cool. After a stressful day at work, a cool blast of air is all you need. Cool air has a calming effect, and it helps people sleep better. In summer, lots of people would rather spend their time in their room watching Netflix than going out and basking in the heat of the sun. But what if on a rough summer day, your air conditioning unit suddenly stops blowing cold air? You might suffer from not get that calming effect anymore. That’s terrible. So, here’s what you need to know when your air conditioner stops blowing cold air, along with some simple ways to fix it.

1.     You have clogged air filters.

Your air conditioner doesn’t just blow cold air. It also filters the air around the room. One potential cause of the unit no longer blowing cold air is a clogged air filter. The filter might be too dusty and need a cleanup.

2.     The condenser coils and evaporator are dirty.

The condenser is responsible for releasing or collecting heat, while the evaporator is responsible for blowing cold air. A dirty evaporator or condenser coils can be a contributing cause of why an air conditioning unit does not blow cold air. Having it cleaned once in a while maintains its over-all performance.

3.     The compressor’s broken

With a malfunctioning compressor, refrigerant might not be able to circulate in and out of the unit. The best option in this case is to buy a replacement compressor. Fixing a broken compressor can cost you hundreds of dollars.

4.     Your thermostat is no longer cooperative.

Whether you turn it to absolute zero or a sensible 74, it will not make much of a difference if your thermostat is not working. Check the thermostat from time to time to ensure that it is working properly.

5.     Refrigerant is leaking.

The refrigerant is responsible for cooling your air. It absorbs heat in exchange for cool air. Leaky refrigerant is one problem that air conditioner owners face. Calling an expert is the best option to resolve this issue.

Troubleshooting

One troubleshooting tip is to keep your air filter, compressor, and evaporator clean at all times. If these components of the air conditioning unit are dirty or clogged, it will not only prevent your unit from blowing cool air; it can also damage the entire unit. When you purchased the unit, you were briefed by the salesperson or perhaps the person doing the installation where these components are. Cleaning them occasionally can help you save money. There are some problems that you can’t resolve yourself. Troubleshooting will not help in these cases. Only experts in refrigeration and air conditioning can take care of it. This may be costly, but letting them handle it reduces the possibility of inflicting more damage to your unit. Sometimes it is best to let the experts handle things.
