Air Quality

How Can I Make the Air Quality in My Room Noticeably Better?

After a long and tiring day at work, no one wants to come home to a messy and uncomfortable bedroom. Although wiping and vacuuming regularly can keep your room neat and tidy, improving the room’s indoor air quality is still the best way to make it feel fresher. Here are a few tips on how you can make the air quality in your room noticeably better:

• Research what types of plants you should keep indoors

Plants can serve as room décor, but they can also help in improving the indoor air quality of your room. Choosing the right kind of plants will provide your room with more oxygen. Just make sure to do your research, since some are toxic to pets or can foster the growth of mold.

• Invest in an air purifier

An air purifier is an effective way to get rid of allergens inside your room, especially if you are living with pets. Air purifiers capture irritants that may trigger allergy and asthma symptoms.

• Open your windows

If you are not allowing the air inside your room to leave, then fresh air cannot enter your room either. Make sure to open your windows from time to time, even during the cold months, to allow fresh air to move into your room and circulate throughout the house. Just make sure that the window is not facing any sources of pollution.

• Vacuum your carpet regularly using a HEPA filter

A high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter on your vacuum will help you eliminate any dust and pathogens on your carpets more efficiently. Experts do not recommend installing wall-to-wall carpet, but if you already have it installed, then it should be vacuumed at least once a week, with multiple passes.

• Avoid harsh cleaning materials

Many disinfectants and cleaners from the grocery store are made of chemicals that may be great at removing stains but can be toxic when they find their way into the air. Instead, opt for soap and water with a homemade or all-natural disinfectant to prevent the spread of any unwanted particles.

• Replace your HVAC filter monthly

Your heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) unit is responsible for the circulation of air inside your house. It is equipped with a filter that can sift through the tiniest molecules in the air and make sure that you are breathing only fresh air. However, if the filter remains unchanged for a long time, then the dirt trapped in the filter will be able to find its way out.

• Get your HVAC inspected annually

Aside from your routine filter change, your HVAC unit should also be inspected by a professional technician at least once a year to make sure that all the parts are working effectively. Since unfiltered air passes through these different parts all year, they need some cleaning, too. Only professionals will be able to clean it properly, so it’s better to hire someone to do it for you.

A cozy and relaxing room is the best way to unwind from the hustle and bustle of the outdoor world. Once you begin practicing these tips, you will immediately notice how fresh the air you are breathing is, which should help you relax.
